Customer Review: Excellent Widescreen Monitor (glad I bought it!!!)
UPDATED: June 20, 2009 I have to admit, I was a bit concerned about purchasing this online, virtually sight unseen. I went to Best Buy and saw the 20" version of this display and wasn't overly pleased, but then realized that the demo Best Buy had running on the monitor was not in the model's native resolution. So I came home and after a couple of days of deliberation with myself I took the plunge and bought this from Amazon. The display is a cinch to assemble. I've read some reviews where people have had great difficulty putting the stand together then attaching the stand to the monitor itself. This simply is not the case. Everything is keyed (all you have to do is pay attention to the carved out notches) and slid together very easily, no difficulty at all. "Professional" reviews have indicated that the monitor is very wobbly. This is the case to an extent, but it takes a fair jolt to get this monitor to tip. In all practicality who is going to be hitting the monitor with their hand anyway trying to get it to tip over. Perhaps a good earthquake, a running child or clumsy oaf is needed. Buyers will definitely want to take some time to calibrate the monitor. I am currently running Windows 7 RC1 so some calibration tools are included that don't come in previous versions of Windows (including Vista, that I have found anyway). A Google search for "monitor calibration" will help aid in this process. "Professional" reviews have indicated that gray colors are not represented correctly, taking on a "yellowish hue." Out of the box using default settings this seemed to be the case (you'll see what I mean if you open a picture using Windows Photo Viewer, maximize the window and notice the color of the border surrounding the image), and using the monitor color profile that ships with the LCD (which Adobe Photoshop CS3 reports as being corrupted), but after customizing the monitor settings and getting a new color profile generated by Windows 7, this color turned from the "yellowish" hue to a light blue color as was displayed by my previous LCD (this of course is based on my current color scheme found in Windows 7). Games play flawlessly, with good color, picture quality and vibrancy. No bleeding or blur with this 2ms response time display. The monitor includes presets for gaming, but if you calibrate the monitor properly this seems to be unneeded. Your mileage may vary depending on personal preference, but using in-game settings with brightness, contrast etc. can help get the job done. Games I tested in 1920x1080 were Crysis, the Half-Life 2 series, Far Cry 2, Unreal Tournament III, Stalker: Clear Sky, Street Fighter IV Benchmark (now available for download) and Bejeweled Twist. All played perfectly, again no blur or bleeding. I tested out a HD copy of "The Dark Knight" with no issues, perfect clarity in all respects. Some complaints (again from "professional" reviews) state that there is some white light bleed-through at the top edge of the screen on dark pictures. I found this to be very minor and not distracting at all. My desktop wallpaper images are native to 1920x1080 which is crisp and clear, so you'll probably want to find some HD or widescreen wallpapers for your viewing pleasure. Settings for the monitor I have found to be optimal (at least for myself) are as follows: Picture, Brightness: 50 Picture, Contrast: 76 Picture, Sharpness: 68 MagicBright: Custom Response Time: Normal Color, MagiColor: Off Red: 50 Green: 50 Blue: 50: Color Tone: Custom Color Effect: Off Gamma: Mode1 It may also be advantageous to use the ClearType technology built into Windows (MacOS probably has something similar), again personal preference so your mileage may vary. Windows 7 is a bit more extensive in customizing ClearType than prevoius versions of Windows. I am very pleased with this monitor and would recommend it to anyone looking for a quality display at a reasonable price.

Customer Review: happy at 1st but not later
I bought my 910MP at Office Depot for premium price ($500+) nearly three years ago, and I was satisfied at first, even though the tv pic quality was not great. My chief interest was in computer-monitor use, which was acceptable, and I've almost always used the PIP to watch tv as I do computer work. The PIP tv image quality is much better than full-screen tv on this monitor. Audio quality was mediocre from the get-go, even though I didn't expect much from on-board monitor speakers. Later, the audio began to distort or to disappear occasionally, requiring me to re-power the monitor or to turn the audio volume WAY UP until audio came back ... then back down to listening level. I had a couple of very distracting stuck pixels (RED) dead-center after about a year ... but recently I found a suggestion online to MASSAGE the stuck pixels lightly with my finger, and by golly IT WORKED ... no more stuck pixels YAY! After 2+ years of fairly hard use (at least 8 hours each day and sometimes on for several continuous days), the monitor developed some other video artifacts (horizontal striping or banding) that only appear in tv-viewing mode or with certain full-color computer images. These troubles don't seem to be helped by the MASSAGE. I got what I expected (an acceptable computer monitor with tv tuner), but I felt I had paid too much at $500+, considering mainly the less-than-optimal tv viewing quality and the audio/video problems that have appeared over time. If you get a good price, and if you don't expect too much, this monitor may be a nice deal for you.
Customer Review: Does everything that was expected
We purchased two of these monitors to replace older LCD monitors that stopped working. The monitor does everything we expected. Set up in not intuitive but is OK if you read the instructions. Resolution is good for normal viewing but there is some banding if you are viewing a screen with mostly light colors. This is acceptable as I have observed it on other monitors. It leaves a bit to be desired when used as a TV but the PIP is very good. Again this was the same with our older monitors. I would recommend this monitor if you are looking for a dual function monitor at a reasonable price.

This is the second time I have bought this monitor. I bought the first one for my study and this second one to put in my bedroom. It is inexpensive yet very clear and durable. I have a sight problem so having a large monitor is what I needed. Some people have complained about the speakers but for everyday use I find them to be adequate. I don't play music on mine so they meet my needs perfectly. I find it easy to use since the buttons are all in the front. I had a good surprise when I opened my box, this monitor already comes with all cables. Too bad I bought an extra one. Anyway here are my comments: Pros: -Great and bright image! -Good refresh rate. I see no ghosting. -Beautiful finish. -Widescreen rocks when playing FPS games (varies from player to player but I love it) -Really plug and play with my laptop. Just plug and set it as primary monitor and I'm good to go to use 2 screens (I extend my Work area into the original laptop screen) Cons: -You can't adjust anything on the stand (not height nor inclination...) This is a bit annoying but I placed it on the top of a box to elevate the screen. -I've seen people complaining about bleeding, but it doesn't bother me. More demanding users might disagree with me. When I bought this monitor, the price was 220 dollars with the 22" version being 260. For 40 more dollars I didn't think that the extra .4 inch would be worth. Now one might consider the 2253BW instead. Has same refresh rate, same # of pixels and so on, but it is truly 22"

I just purchased this Samsung 2253 for my linux box. Took off my old old CRT and hooked it up. WOW! I was surprised, I didn't have to do anything (I didn't even have to fiddle with the X settings). Works great. As other reports say, it does wobble a bit, but other than that it work great on my linux box.

Customer Review: Excellent office monitor
This is an excellent office monitor. I purchased two for a dual-monitor setup and I am very happy to finally have found the perfect displays for my desk. The stand is highly adjustable, it swivels almost 360' at the base, tilts and flips sideways, and the height is adjustable as well. No need to for a dual-monitor arm with these, they work perfectly as is. The settings needed a little adjusting to perfect visibility and sharpness, but the result was well worth it. The speakers are good for the office, but obviously not adequate for any serious audiophiles.

I purchased a Samsung 225bw a couple years ago and needed a 2nd monitor so opted for this thinking it would be the same if not better. What a let-down. Picture was totally inferior, major bleeding...had to send it back. Ended up finding a refurb on the 225 and purchased a second from that instead. Disappointing compared to the Samsung 225BW which is an exceptional monitor.

Nice clear, sharp picture. I have my brightness set at 35%, and it'll work even in the brightest daylight room. I don't like the single support point, though. When you're pounding away on your keyboard, the monitor tends to rock back and forth. I had to stick a wedge of business cards under one corner to make it stop.

The Samsung 920 NW is a surprising observation. It looks good-and-black casing, elegant style and the picture is very sharp. The colors are bright and vivid, and it is very easy to use (pretty much plug-and-play installation, you can use the software if you want, but it was not necessary on my Vista computer). For the price (I have about $ 160) you will not find what better ANYWHERE.

Great product. I love the fact that it is so that I can be a widescreen DVD on Windows Media Player, and my work on my laptop.
Only thing I do not to them (and which can be a DVI to VGA thing anyway) is that on my Mac, the resolution is not as great as on the PC.

Great choice for computer use

I wanted to replace my 22" (1620 wide native resolution) monitor with a larger monitor (1920 wide) to get more stuff on the screen. I am a software developer and need to have multiple applications open on the screen. I often am working with at least 2 windows side by side, so the more space on the screen the better. However, I don't have enough desk space for dual monitors.

I also wanted to keep the tilt, pivot, and height adjustment features of my current monitor. (The pivot lets you put the monitor in portrait mode. I don't use this often, but it is handy when reading long PDF documents onscreen.)

There is a somewhat bewildering array of Samsung options, each with their pros and cons. I chose the 2693 because it has the tilt/height/pivot adjustments and because I was worried about too small print on the 24" monitors (which also are 1920x1200).

I am very satisfied with this monitor. It took a little playing around to get the right contrast & brightness for my room (I use Brightness=30 and Contrast=100). I also struggled at first with the "invisible" buttons in the lower right. (I had a comical episode when I thought the monitor was broken because I didn't realize there was an on/off switch!)

But, after using this for about 5 weeks, I am very pleased and believe I made the right purchase. Everything works perfectly and the display quality and colors are great.

Clean appearance, good performance

I have to say this monitor is very pleasing after using it about 5 days for a few hours each day. The screen has a pleasing amount of matte texture, not too glossy so as to add glare, but not to matte so as to muddy up the video. The height adjustable, tilt, and swiveling base is very nice, but since I don't usually (almost never) rotate the monitor to vertical I will rarely notice the nice base after setting it up. The worst feature is the touch-sensitive controls. They aren't really that bad, because I haven't needed to use them very much after first setting up, and a plus for them is that they won't collect dirt and dust and they add to this monitor's clean appearance. The buttons don't always respond with each touch, and that coupled with a lack of button menu familiarity (since the device is new to me) makes them seem worse than they actually are. I like the idea but they need to perfect the touch sensitivity some more on future models. This feature would not deter me from a great recommendation. As for the blue power light mentioned in other reviews, I can hardly believe people complain this much about such trivial things, at least that's how I see it. It is easily covered up if necessary... As it happens for me, the blue matches my Antec P150 PC case power and HHD lights... and I don't have issue with indicator lights being visible. The point of them is to show the status of the video input and power status, which I find useful when switching PCs with my KVM switch. The video switches fairly quickly using the KVM, with only a second or two of no video. This is slightly slower than the 204B was, but definitely no issue. I also like the crystalline (back-painted glass) look of the bezel and it sort-of matches nicely with the MS-Vista Aero glass theme appearance.

I had been using a Samsung 204B 20 inch flat monitor for 3 years Samsung SyncMaster 204B 20.1-Inch LCD Monitor (Black) and was quite pleased with it overall, so picking out this monitor felt safe. I had looked at the Dell S2409W 24" LCD DELL S2409W 24" Full HD 1080p Widescreen Flat Panel LCD Monitor (With DVI & HDMI Connection) at Best Buy at was seriously considering that one, and then I saw the small cousin of this monitor, the 2493HM Samsung SyncMaster 2493HM 24" LCD Monitor, and liked its looks better, and I was more comfortable with the Samsung brand. Finding the 2693HM was only about $30 more for the extra size, I went for it, and I'm pleased with this product and highly recommend it.

What a deal

This Samsung monitor not only outperforms every other monitor in its class, it looks stunning. I bought it for my son who is a game fanatic. It was he that pointed out the differences in shading and lack of motion blur. I own two other Samsung TVs and the picture on them is unsurpassed. I am not a guy that goes for micro investigation of the tech aspects. I go for what I can see, the price I pay, and the lasting quality of the equipment. This monitor more than fulfills all of the above requirements fully.

It's okay...

I'm sure you can find better out there.
I bought this at Costco yesterday and was pleased, for the first five minutes...
So There is backlight bleeding on top and the bottom, a bit on the right and left sides... I have an older Samsung930B (not widescreen) and there is no backlight bleeding (well not enough for me to notice it and be irritated by it). I spent the last 2 hours trying to fix this, I know backlight bleeding is a problem with all LCD monitors but like I said, my 930B doesn't have this problem.
Also, my 2243BWX does not include the USB hubs, I have no idea why. I bought mine at Costco (Canada) and wrote to Samsung, but they didn't even offer my model from the drop down list.
And Dynamic Contrast Ratio is a terrible idea when watching movies or shows. It just keeps flickering, even when it's in the same scene. As soon as the different characters (with different colored shirts let's say) are on screen, the monitor adjusts itself. Sounds like a good idea but practically, it's a terrible one. If you're using Dynamic Contrast though for things like text and then going on the internet, it's a better idea since you won't switch between the 2 constantly and if you do, they are different "uses" so it wouldn't be bothersome.

Might have been nice....

This monitor might have been nice had Samsung bothered to put the correct EDID information on the monitor. Instead, however, my monitor reports its maximum resolution as 1280x1024, so I can't use the monitor as a widescreen monitor since the Windows Nvidia drivers have strict implementation of EDID. So, this POS is going right back to Samsung. Did I mention I recieved this as a warranty replacement for another Samsung monitor that died after a mere 2 years' service?
There's also a pretty major design flaw in the monitor itself. The buttons on the unit are touch buttons. Brilliantly, Samsung made the text of the buttons charcoal gray on a black background. Unsurprisingly, unless strong light is available, the buttons are not visible. I wouldn't recommend any Samsung monitor, or any Samsung product for that matter anymore if this is the best they can offer.

Hard to Find Fault

Our first LCD monitor after years with CRTs. The comment from my usually skeptical wife was "what took you so long?" We are running Windows XP, and use our system mostly for web surfing and for MS Office applications. The monitor was easy to set up and adjust. I did have to load the Driver from the CD tht was supplied, but that went well. The stand is easily adjustable, and the monitor can easily be rotated 90 degrees. The paper documentation is a bit weak, but the CD-based owner manual seems very good. This has certainly been a five-star purchase for us.

I did some research of the product, price - size and resolution and I am

very much satisfied. There are quite a few changes that can be made to the

display because the screen does not have the normal 4:3 (W:H) ratio. Also

the color can be changed lighter or darker.

All in all a very good product.

Cons: The lettering on the lower frame for the different display changes

is nearly impossible to see and the screen must be shut down to see where

to touch the frame for display changes.

Customer Review: Samsung is the industry standard

I have owned this monitor for about 6 months now. I run a dual monitor setup that includes a Samsung 244T which is about a year and a half older. I hear many people talk about the difference of the viewing angle between the two and how it makes a huge difference and that they have to move their heads around to make sure they are getting the hot spot on the screen with the 245BW. I look at a 244T which has a 178 viewing angle and this monitor which is at 160 everyday for hours right next to each other. If price was not an option I would still probably get this one over the the 244T. This may be because the 244T is not a current model but when price is added into it, I can't see the 245T being worth a $200+ difference in cost. The 244T did come with magic rotation and the 245BW did not and that can be a nice thing to have for some although I do not use it myself.

With that said, this is all very subjective and both monitors are excellent. Ever since owning these monitors, I would never own another brand of monitor. Whether you get the T model or the BW or some other less expensive model, do yourself a favor and buy a Samsung and you will be happy with your purchase.

Customer Review: Samsung SyncMaster 22" LCD Monitor

This is the second time I have bought this monitor. I bought the first one for my study and this second one to put in my bedroom. It is inexpensive yet very clear and durable. I have a sight problem so having a large monitor is what I needed. Some people have complained about the speakers but for everyday use I find them to be adequate. I don't play music on mine so they meet my needs perfectly. I find it easy to use since the buttons are all in the front. I would highly recommend this monitor to a person who needs or wants a large, easy to use monitor with a great price (I even got a rebate on it).

I bought this on last thanksgiving. Have used for last 1 year. Perfect in every sense. But ended up buying 19inch (Samsung T190) for doing programming at home. Its too big. Initially I thought I will use this for TV viewing using HP m8100n/m8120n computers. For TV viewing its perfect, though I could not setup TV. I did not try hard as I fried my hard disk another machine while doing viedo recording. I prefer to go with regular DVR from cable/dish companies.

Customer Review: A good monitor for the money

Summary

A good monitor for the money, especially if you need a 15 pin D-Sub (VGA) input. I don't plan to return mine, but there may be better ones out there for similar cost. If I were buying today, I'd also have a close look at the Asus 24 inch models.

This is my first LED monitor, I'm coming from a 19 inch (17.1 viewable) CRT. I got the 2443BWX on sale Best Buy for $300.

Obviously, twenty four inches is a nice improvement. My aging GeForce 5500 128MB AGP card manages - but just barely - to drive the 2443BWX at its 1920x1200 native resolution at 60 Hz. I can get the native resolution only with the analog input.

Text is razor sharp. Video looks good. No ghosting or motion blur. Color is good, but before the auto adjust feature (which may work only with VGA) reds were over saturated. Blacks are dark, but not as sharply defined as with my old CRT.

Since my last monitor was a CRT, I am not accustomed to the limited viewing angle. It took a while to find the position that worked best for me, which was to place the top of the monitor just below eye level, and tilt the monitor back slightly.

Pros

Big screen for the money. Three year parts and labor warranty. No ghosting. No motion blur. Very nice picture quality for web browsing, video, and newsgroup browsing.

Works with Linux - in Kubuntu 8.04 with the Nvidia closed source driver (version 169.12) I have it set as a SyncMaster 240T.

The auto adjust feature worked well for me, which was a very good thing considering the horrible On Screen Display controls.

Cons

At first, I thought I had zero bad pixels out of the box. While none are completely dead or stuck, there is a cluster at the left hand edge of the screen that shows red when they should be black.

Unlike the 2443BW, the 2443BWX has no height adjustment capability and no USB ports.

The full user manual is on CD only, no paper edition is in the box.

OSD control buttons are truly horrible. This is easily the worst feature of the monitor. I've had the monitor for a week now, and I still haven't managed to use all the adjustments. Once you manage to get in the desired setting, it is a crap shoot as to whether you'll adjust the setting in the correct direction, inadvertently leave the OSD screen, or jump to the next setting.

As with all TN LCDs, optimum viewing angle is limited. With a screen this size, the problem is magnified. If you aren't positioned perfectly in relation to the 2443BWX, you'll see either the TN characteristic darkness at the top, bottom or side of the screen.

Depending on your needs, the lack of HDMI, no height adjustable stand, no USB ports, and no speakers may or not be problematic to you.

Customer Review: Good monitor, beautiful design and already comes with DVI cable

I had a good surprise when I opened my box, this monitor already comes with all cables. Too bad I bought an extra one.

Anyway here are my comments:

Pros:

-Great and bright image!

-Good refresh rate. I see no ghosting.

-Beautiful finish.

-Widescreen rocks when playing FPS games (varies from player to player but I love it)

-Really plug and play with my laptop. Just plug and set it as primary monitor and I'm good to go to use 2 screens (I extend my Work area into the original laptop screen)

Cons:

-You can't adjust anything on the stand (not height nor inclination...)

This is a bit annoying but I placed it on the top of a box to elevate the screen.

-I've seen people complaining about bleeding, but it doesn't bother me. More demanding users might disagree with me.

When I bought this monitor, the price was 220 dollars with the 22" version being 260. For 40 more dollars I didn't think that the extra .4 inch would be worth. Now one might consider the 2253BW instead. Has same refresh rate, same # of pixels and so on, but it is truly 22"

Customer Review: Really nice monitor for Linux

I just purchased this Samsung 2253 for my linux box. Took off my old old CRT and hooked it up. WOW! I was surprised, I didn't have to do anything (I didn't even have to fiddle with the X settings). Works great. As other reports say, it does wobble a bit, but other than that it work great on my linux box.

Customer Review: Incompetent Adjustment Control Design

This monitor is bright, colorful, and basically the best you can get for under $300 in terms of picture (though I've noticed a lot of eye strain comes with this). However, the person who designed the adjustment buttons should be taken out back and kept from working in this industry until he or she reaches at least the age of 13. They are awful. First of all, they're not even buttons, they're just tiny areas on the bezel that you're supposed to touch, even though they are practically invisible (you'll need a flashlight to even detect them). They don't always respond to your touch, of course, so adjusting the monitor's picture can be as arduous as producing a bowel movement while on the Atkins diet. I honestly thought this adjustment panel was a joke, but I couldn't find anybody laughing.

Whatever you do, don't let any of your friends or family see you attempting to adjust settings on this thing, because the sight of you hunched over your desk shining a flashlight at your monitor in the middle of the day while poking it to death with your finger and uttering every curse word known to man in pure frustration will probably cause them to change their opinion of you somewhat. Did Samsung even bother to test this thing before they released it? There's really no excuse for this.

Overall we like this monitor. The only possible drawback is the glossy bezel which can introduce some glare. Our older Samsung 214T had a flat finish which is what we prefer.

Customer Review: New factory settings are excellent

See Maximum PC, which rates this monitor over the Dell 2408. I read all the reviews, both professional magazines, web, personal, etc. All complained that the default settings, as delivered, were excessive, and the monitor was only useful after calibrating it. Obviously Samsung read the same reviews, and they now deliver with moderate settings. I checked my delivered monitor against their suggested, altered settings, and they are very close. I tweaked a few things for personal preference but that's it.

I needed a monitor for Photoshop CS3 (not gaming, not hdtv) and so I needed a true 8-bit color monitor, not one of the cheaper 6-bit TN panels. For a 24", with these specs, in this price range, your best bets are the 245T or the Dell 2408. You'll find reviewers that rate one higher than the other depending on who you read. I subscribe to Maximum PC and decided to go with their recommendation, which is the 245T. Plus they cost about the same, depending on what promotions Dell is running when it's time to buy.

I have this next to my Samsung 215tw, also an 8-bit monitor, 22", but 3 years older, and the 245T shows more detail in the shadows. It's beautiful and exactly what I expected. I highly recommend it if you work with PhotoShop at home.

I also bought an Ergotron LX computer arm for it (on Amazon $114) which is mounted to my desk and I can easily swing it wherever I need it, or spin it into portrait mode. Same with the 215tw.

Customer Review: Annoying buzzing noise

Picture quality is great. I had the opportunity to compare it with 2443 BWX and picture quality is way better.

But, there is that buzzing noise. It is very loud (my computer makes a lot of noise and my aquarium makes a lot of noise and this buzzing noise was still driving me nuts). 2443 BWX does not make any noise at all.

I do not understand why they can make a high end monitor with great picture quality but they cannot solve this stupid buzzing noise problem.

I had to return it for a refund and now I do not know which monitor I will buy. I do not want to buy a low end monitor.

Customer Review: Very good monitor

This is a very nice monitor both in quality and the overall design.
There are just two shortages: (1) the monitor is a little too bright that one need to turn the brightness control all the way down to minimum, and (2) the 5-button setting at the side of the monitor is a little hard to use. Fortunately, one doesn't need to change the setting all the time and the brightness can be adjusted using software. Overall, this is a large and good monitor for something about $450.

Customer Review: Perfect for gaming but has a few problems

First off, this is a TN panel and probably isn't ideal or photo or video editing. That's fine, all that I use it for is playing games. It is perfect for that application. I purchased it on a great holiday sale for less than $400, and for that price, I think it is an excellent value. If you're looking for a fast gaming monitor, this one will do the job. Just don't expect to use professional editing tools like CS3 and get perfect results.
Monitors has some useful features:

1. DVI, VGA, and HDMI inputs. It's nice to have multiple connections so that you can use it as both a monitor and a television simply by changing the input (assuming you have a cable box connected to it). If you want one with a TV tuner, get the T260HD.

2. 20,000:1 contrast ratio. Amazon is listing this as 1000:1 but that is not correct. The box and the Samsung web page list it as 20,000:1.

3. 5ms response time. Good enough for most games. There is a little motion blur when playing something like a FPS, but it is minimal.

A few dislikes:

1. The exterior of the bezel is clear and catches background light creating a thin line of light along the top of the monitor.

2. Because this is a TN panel, there is some fall off at the top and bottom of the monitor.

3. No VESA mount. This is really stupid as every other Samsung monitor I've ever had did. I was planning to mount this to a monitor arm. The bas e provided has no height adjustment, so you might need to use something to raise it higher depending on your viewing angle and preference.

4. Tricky to calibrate, even with a Huey. It took a bit of messing around to get the monitor to look accurate and have the right gamma settings. This is not an easy monitor to calibrate.

Overall, I'm satisfied with this monitor. For the price I paid, I think it works well enough. It is not a graphic design capable display, but is fantastic for games, surfing the net, programing, etc... Get one if you don't need additional features like a TV tuner or VESA mount.

Customer Review: Best Monitor of it's Class

I received this item today from Amazon. At first, I thought they'd accidentally shipped a refrigerator instead of a computer monitor because the box was so big. I seriously wondered if there might be stowaways inside as it was considerably heavier than I'd anticipated.

I purchased the item to use as my main monitor. This replaced a 22" WS Acer which was lacking in every conceivable way.

Upon first impression, the product is magnificent. The bezel is a shiny lacquered black color which looks very nice. The product came w/ both a VGA and DVI cable, along with the speaker cables (which I did not install).

The stand is outstanding. It adjusts up, down, left and right about as well as you can hope for. I seriously considered the 24" HP model after checking it out in a store; I believe the stand is as good or better than the HP. The 90* swivel to portrait mode is well designed - and it makes accessing the input jacks easy as well.

After turning it on, the "out-of-the-box" settings are badly lacking. I had to play with the brightness/contrast/etc. to get it close to where it needs to be.

As other have noted, the On-Screen Display (as well as the volume and on/off controls) buttons aren't really buttons at all; they're touch sensitive in the way that an i-phone is. They work when you hit them right. Although it looks slick, they perform poorly in function. You can see the markings fine when the monitor is turned off, but with the monitor on, the brightness of the screen makes the gray on black text very difficult to see. A flashlight is necessary to see them, even in a well lit room. This is frustrating when attempting to adjust monitor settings using these controls. I'd say that this is the only place where the 24" HP has an edge. The HP was very well engineered in this aspect.

I didn't think there'd be a large difference between a 22" (1680 * 1050) & this one. I was wrong.

This monitor is a monstrosity!!! If you desire maximum screen space, a 22" simply won't do. I knew this would be an upgrade over the Acer, but I had no idea what I was getting into. I run a 17" CRT as a secondary monitor that I used often w/ the 22" when I needed a little extra space. I don't foresee it getting a lot of use now that this behemoth is dominating my desktop.

The viewing angles are very acceptable. One of the reasons I decided against the HP was the fact that when viewing the screen in portrait mode (in the store), I found there to be a very big difference top to bottom in terms of picture quality. This Samsung is far superior in this aspect. This monitor can swivel approx 40* or more before the picture becomes noticeably distorted.

After tweaking the settings, I find the picture to be excellent. I purchased this item as I felt it was the best 24" in it's class based on other reviews. So far I am happy with my choice. The monitor has no dead or stuck pixels and is versatile enough that I think most everyone will find it useful and worthwhile.

Customer Review: Great monitor - be careful about USB "option"

I got this for a new gaming computer based on many positive reviews. After having this for a few days, here are a few comments:

Pros: beautiful display of Crysis, WoW, many other games. Great color. Bright (too bright, but I toned that done). Fast screen response

Cons: Not many. I won't need the "pivot" ability, unless we get into serious desktop publishing. I expected the monitor to come with USB ports -- that is an "option" that is hard to tell if you're going to get with any particular model. Tiny bit of light bleed at the lower left side, but hardly noticeable.

Summary: I'm happy. I wanted one of the best TN monitors on the market and feel I got it. I also feel its likely a bit of overkill for a computer that will largely be used for gaming -- I also bought a 22" AOC monitor that is perfectly acceptable for only $179 on sale -- but since I was splurging on a nice system I'm very happy.

I think this would be awesome for a work computer where desktop publishing was occasionally required (where the pivot ability would come into play). For home / gaming, its overkill, but very nice overkill. Just be careful to check if your model comes with USB ports or be ready to get a hub....

Customer Review: No digital hookup with 2008 MacBook

I tried for a month and more to make this monitor work with my late 2008 MacBook. First, no DVI cable came with the monitor. Then Apple's mini-DVI converter wouldn't work with the 2008 MacBook -- it has a DVI miniport, which is a different connection. When I finally got all the right cables, the monitor still wouldn't display. I got friends to check the connection -- the monitor runs fine with other computers in both digital and analog modes. I finally gave up and am using the VGA connection. The result is grainy and UGLY. There is no resolution setting that provides an acceptable image. I more or less hate it. Both Apple and Samsung insist the problem isn't with their product.

My eyes got immediate relief from this new monitor comparing the laptop monitor I have been using at home. I have been using this monitor for about a month now. The picture quality is good as expected from Samsung. I use it mainly for browsing internet, office work and some video watching. The different color settings are very well set. Also the reddish tinge at the bottom really makes the monitor look nice. I would have rated it 5 stars but for the following short comings.

1. Only 2 inputs. VGA and DVI. [I am not saying i didnt know it when i bought it but the competition offers more]

2. No USB inputs. Although not a must have for me, it is always nice to have extra things.

3. There is some bleeding in the monitor.

This product, shipped from JR Music World, died after three days of use. We are still trying to get a replacment from Samsung. It took 4 faxes of my invoice to establish proof of purchase. Unless you give Samsung the exact time your fax was sent, they can't find it.

I love this monitor. It's the perfect size for my workspace (19"), contrast and color are bright and clear, and it's easy to use (after some set-up issues, below).

Other reviews I read before purchasing this complained about the buttons on the frame and about the built-in MagicRotation software not working. It took a while for me to master the latter. First, let me say that the only drawback I found was that the documentation for this monitor -- both supplied and available online at Samsung's website -- is awful. Took a lot of monkeying around to get the resolution right, so that circles showed up as circles, not ellipses, etc. To get the MagicRotation (and MagicTune) software to work, I had to (i) update my video card drivers, and then (ii) download the latest versions of the Samsung monitor software from their website -- NOT installing the versions supplied on the CD that came with the monitor.

Now it works like a charm.

As for the buttons on the frame, yes they are impossible to make out, but once you get the control software installed, the only button you need to use is the on/off, which is very easy to locate (right next to the power-on LED indicator light). All the other functions performed by the control buttons can be done onscreen, using MagicTune, etc.

Considering I got this for about $140, and that it suits my needs perfectly, I am one happy camper.

This appears to be a well constructed, full featured unit. Picture quality is outstanding, and connection capability is very flexible. I have purchased two of these units. However, the audio quality is horrible, sounding like a tinny 50's era transistor radio. For any decent audio you'll need to connect to an external audio system.

Customer Review: very poor product repackaging!

This product was repackaged for shipping, making it more likely to be damaged that way than it was when shipped originally!! I bought it refurbished... the product box just had a small dent in the corner of the box, which didn't even affect the styrofoam inside. But some idiot put this box into a huge box with just wadded up brown paper around it. Needless to say, the brown paper was flattened by the weight of the monitor. This left more than a foot on the sides for the heavy monitor to slide and thud every time the box was shifted! Duh!

Having to replace five computer monitors over the past 15 years, I decided to purchase a TV which doubled as a computer monitor. The reasoning for this was simple economics as my TVs were outlasting my monitors by a factor of five. Another reason for the HDTV choice was the ability to move it to another room to use as a HDTV. The reality is, this HDTV monitor is a great computer monitor and a very good DVD monitor but as a HDTV connected to a naked digital cable or even to a digital cable DVR box, it falls far short from the picture quality which I get from even my digital tv. I called Samsung support about this issue and they told me that they had wished that Samsung had explained the weak tuner problem and that there was no solution to improve the clarity of the picture. So, for the $500 I paid for this unit I would STRONGLY suggest that you buy a Samsung 32' 1080p with a pc input for $600. Sure, it'll use more power than the Samsung T260HD but you'll be a happy camper if you make the jump to the pure HDTV.

I got this monitor for a home-office setup, not for movie watching or the like. There are fewer and fewer 4:3 options in LCDs, and this monitor is ideal for a dual-setup (I am ordering the second one shortly after Christmas). Customer Review: It's okay...
I'm sure you can find better out there. I bought this at Costco yesterday and was pleased, for the first five minutes... So There is backlight bleeding on top and the bottom, a bit on the right and left sides... I have an older Samsung930B (not widescreen) and there is no backlight bleeding (well not enough for me to notice it and be irritated by it). I spent the last 2 hours trying to fix this, I know backlight bleeding is a problem with all LCD monitors but like I said, my 930B doesn't have this problem. Also, my 2243BWX does not include the USB hubs, I have no idea why. I bought mine at Costco (Canada) and wrote to Samsung, but they didn't even offer my model from the drop down list. And Dynamic Contrast Ratio is a terrible idea when watching movies or shows. It just keeps flickering, even when it's in the same scene. As soon as the different characters (with different colored shirts let's say) are on screen, the monitor adjusts itself. Sounds like a good idea but practically, it's a terrible one. If you're using Dynamic Contrast though for things like text and then going on the internet, it's a better idea since you won't switch between the 2 constantly and if you do, they are different "uses" so it wouldn't be bothersome.
Customer Review: Might have been nice....
This monitor might have been nice had Samsung bothered to put the correct EDID information on the monitor. Instead, however, my monitor reports its maximum resolution as 1280x1024, so I can't use the monitor as a widescreen monitor since the Windows Nvidia drivers have strict implementation of EDID. So, this POS is going right back to Samsung. Did I mention I recieved this as a warranty replacement for another Samsung monitor that died after a mere 2 years' service? There's also a pretty major design flaw in the monitor itself. The buttons on the unit are touch buttons. Brilliantly, Samsung made the text of the buttons charcoal gray on a black background. Unsurprisingly, unless strong light is available, the buttons are not visible. I wouldn't recommend any Samsung monitor, or any Samsung product for that matter anymore if this is the best they can offer.

I have had this LCD for about a year now, and I have been impressed with it everyday! I do a lot of graphics and this LCD was good to go right out of the box! I didn't need to do any color customization at all. The only down falls are the power supply isn't intergrated, so you have a brick to deal with and you have to use software to adjust brightness, contrast, etc. But that can be a good or a bad thing, since there is only on, heat activated, button for power you get a very elegent look. You can't beat how slim it is and it's got a DVI and RGB, sepertate, inputs on the back. Supposdly you can get this moniter in an array of different colors (according to the box) but the silver one is all I have seen, it has a white enamel back and silver base. Samsung is written on the bezel of the monitor, the base and on the back of the disply. Otherwise there is nothing else written on that, just some sticker you can take off. I recommed this or the smaller 17" 173p for anyone!

I am an sight impaired individual that was using an CRT that was made by AOC. THe monitor was ok but it was causing a lot of eye strain. So, I researched quite a few LCD monitors and I went to some of the major electronics to preview the displays. As I kept researching and previewing many displays my eyes was always affix on the 193p. I was impressed with the contrast, brightness, and color depth. So, I went ahead and purchased it from j&R Electronics. I received it within a week, connected it to my computer and I was even more impressed! I am enjoying every second of use. I highly recommend this oroduct.

Just finished using a Spyder3 to calibrate it. Result? Exactly what I expected. The super-narrow viewing angle kills this thing completely. The bottom of the monitor is reddish and the top is greenish. Despite being in calibration. Avoid this. Plain and simple. I'm replacing it and selling this one.
Customer Review: attractive 19in model, but uses cheap 6 bit TN panel
I bought this when it first came out, and based my purchase mostly on the the specs and the increased color gamut. I wish I had waited and will probably buy a better monitor. I had a NEC crt 22 monitor prior to this and only replaced it because it died. The NEC was quite bulky but an excellent monitor. Unfortunately nobody makes 22 crt's anymore, so I went for the LCD. When I plugged this in, I was struck by the color difference. The colors on this model looked faded out and dull compared to my old crt. It was quite disappointing. I'm giving it 3 stars because it works fine and I've had no problems with it. It has a 2ms response times and so for games there is no ghosting. The problem is that Samsung makes alot of models, and some of their models are very good to excellent, and some are average to below average. This model has a pleasing glossy black exterior like most Samsung models. In fact I think Samsung makes the most attractive displays for their monitors and tv's. The problem with this model is that Samsung uses the cheap 6 bit TN panel Most good panels are 8 bit which provide better color. I'm not even sure the 6 bit panel can take advantage of the increased color gamut on this model. Better models use s-ips or mva or s-pva panels. TN panels are cheaper and thus the most commonly used by manufactures. If you want better color reproduction and increased viewing angles, get a monitor with one of the better panels, like Samsungs own 24in 245t or 30in 305t models. Otherwise, if a cheaper price and having super low 2ms response times are all that you care about, then this is probably one of the better 19in models you can get. Still, I would recommend checking out models that come with the better panels before you buy. Also beware, that Samsung, is not known for having good customer service.

Customer Review: excellent for the price
This uses the same S-PVA panel as the $150 more expensive Eizo L568. After comparing the two, the Eizo certainly does provide more differentiation in similar colors than the 740T, and the L568's power supply also appears to be superior (the 740T flutters a bit with fast black to white transitions). However, they're both about equally accurate with the factory ICM profile installed. Where the Eizo shines is when you calibrate with a spectrophotometer, the big LUT and gamma correction provide a finer grain. The backlights are near perfect, both displays bleed a little in an 'X' pattern from corner to corner, but this isn't even noticeable on anything but a pure black screen, and hardly so then. This is the monitor to get for a desktop or lower end workstation if you prefer accurate colors to fast displays. But then, the pixel response is as specified. It's not a cheap TN part with deceptive g2g specifications and outright ignoring of the ISO standards. Many of the TN panels will actually ghost worse than this panel with it's higher pixel response spec.
Customer Review: The colors are amazing
The differentiation between the colors is incredible, but this is to be expected with a contrast ratio of 1500:1. I would give it 5 stars if it weren't for fact that response time is a little slow for the fast frame rate of a video game. However, for DVD playback 25ms is just fine. I am mainly using it with the DVI video out of my Mac Mini, but just for kicks I connected it to the DVI out of my Samsung SIR-T165 HD tuner. I set the output on the HD tuner to 720p. The combination of the sharp image from the high resolution HD broadcast, combined with the briliant colors from the high contrast monitor blew my socks off. If it weren't for the fact that I am spoiled with the 60+ inch image from my projector, I would permanently attach the 740T to my HD receiver.

I bought the Samsung SyncMaster 940B in silver from a different retailer and its a great monitor. I work with dell flat screens at my job and I was amazed at how much brighter and sharper than the ones at work. I wasn't happy with the place I bought it from because they didn't send me any manuals, drivers , or anything. The good thing is that I was able to go on the Samsung website and download all the drivers and the manual that is why I chose Samsung over any other because I have had good experience with Samsung.

No dead pixels, brain-dead setup and clean crisp picture. The color of the monitor was spot on out of the box using one of the pre-sets. I fired up the Color-Magic software that it came packaged with...But then thought "Why fiddle"? It looked great as it was. I can see how people can get all screwed up by messing with the colors too much (Did that when I got my TV). The interface for Color-Magic is not the most intuitive when it comes to adjusting the color. "Close eyes half way and adjust inner-squares to match the outside" Sounds easy but if you saw it, you'd know what I mean. The only adjustments I did were, brightness (you need sunglasses with the default setting), sharpness and contrast. It does NOT come with a DVI-D cable, just an old analog RGB cable...If your video card supports it, use a DVI-D cable. Digital display + Digital Cable + Digital output from video card= Niiiccce! It can run in analog mode but then...well you know. Don't spend $60 on a DVI-D cable...Go to Newegg.com and get a 6' one for $12.95 (at time of this writing). Also, the monitor takes a male-end cable, check your card to be sure what cable end it needs (most likely male too). A male-male cable is what worked for my setup. Been doing some gaming on it and let me just say that things never looked better. Super sharp and crisp images and with a 8MS....no ghosting (as some CRT loyalists will try to convince you of). So all said and done... Pros 1. Uses half the electricity of a CRT 2. MUCH smaller footprint than a CRT (more room on my desk now!) 3. Almost zero heat out-put compared to CRTs...I'm gonna love that come summer 4. Less eye strain and headaches 5. Better picture, IMHO. Cons 1. The base is limited in adjustability. 2. Doesn't come with a DVI-D cable. 3. Three hours cleaning the computer desk/room to make way for it. 4. Trying to pawn off your old CRT. So yeah, this is a nice monitor but keep in mind that I'm running it on a Geforce TI4600 128MB card. Yeah, it's not a high-end SLI PCI Express blah blah blah card, but it's a respectably good gaming card no matter what the snobs say. That being said, your quality of picture may not be as nice if you are using an old on-board video output or an ancient video card. Not that it's going to be bad, you just might not rave over it. You can get a descent video card for under a hundred dollars, just stick with Nvidia and you can't go wrong. I would have given it 5 stars if made toast...But you can't have every thing. *Shrugs*

I have a 20-month-old boy who loves to break things, so I have to take all my gaming consoles out fo the living room and into the study, where my PC is. So I thought it would be nice to get a LCD monitor with component input for my old consoles, as well as HDMI for potential new consoles. After lots of research I picked the T220HD, because it also comes with digital tuner. I am very happy with the choice because it is exactly what I thought it would be. it's very versatile and display everything well, and I am especially impressed with the digital tuner which picks up all the network OTA HD broadcast using a cheap indoor HDTV antenna, when my PCI tuner card (Avermedia A180) could pick up 2 or 3 using the same antenna in the same position. It's not perfect, however. What's to like: - Component input allows connecting older devices without HDMI. - 2 HDMI ports - Input source button cycles through only ports that are plugged in. - digital TV tuner is excellent. - Build in speaker/headphone jack/audio out port. Speakers are not great, but having them means you don't need extra adaptors to capture the audio from HDMI/component devices. - Remote control. OSD navigation is so much easier and more intuitive with it. And this is really useful when turning the unit on/off, making this a true LCD TV. - Has 16:9 aspect ratio option so that pictures don't have to be stretched to full screen. - Unit is very light, only 13 lb. - Picture is bright and clear, no dead pixel for me. - Screen is matte, not glossy. What's really annoying to me: - Unit is light because base is mostly plastic, not very rigid. - touch sensitive power on/off button. Everything else is tactile and on the side of the monitor, except for power. turning the unit on/off using this button usually requires several presses. Might that be that big of an issue if the unit is not so light and stand so flimsy, I have to grab the whole bottom edge when I try to turn it on this way. Good thing there's the remote. - My unit has quite a bit of backlight bleed at the center of top and bottom edge. Hard to see when using DVI input, but when viewing HDTV, with the black bars on top and bottom to get the correct 16:9 aspect ratio, the bleeding is obvious. What are the missing features which I don't care much about: - the stand is basic, no height adjustment, no portrait mode - no PIP - can't be mounted to the wall - Cannot customize the individual RGB color tone when in DVI mode. Can only select between one of the 3 presets (warm, normal, cool). Other nitpicks: - monitor frame has piano finish (glossy), including the inner side which reflects what's on screen. Kind of annoying , and maybe makes backlight bleeding seem worse than it really is. - most of the connection ports are on the back of the unit facing back. While this makes the ports easier to see than a lot of other models that has the ports on the bottom facing down, it also makes insertion of wires, especially the component video ones, harder becasue you are pushing/applying force perpendicular to the LCD panel. You don't want to put your other hand on the LCD screen, but if you don't, then you really can't get a good push.

I've owned this monitor for almost two years and never thought to do a review of it. What brought doing a review to mind was that the monitor developed a problem. In fact, the problem is very similar to what another reviewer encountered, which led to him giving the unit a low rating. I give this unit 5 stars not only for its inherent quality, but for Samsung's extraordinary warranty and service. Imagine my surprise when I was reminded this unit carries a three year warranty. And getting service is no hassle: just fill in a form on Samsung's web site and they ship a replacement unit free to the nearest UPS store. If you don't have one nearby, you pay shipping for the return of your unit. Not a bad deal at all in my case, considering that I've happily used the unit for 18 months before encountering a problem. The monitor delivers a very sharp image with vibrant color. I adjusted in once when I set it up and have had no need to readjust it. I had to substitute an HP monitor for the Samsung while waiting for a replacement and I was surprised at how much sharper and vibrant the Samsung screen is. A very observable difference. The Samsung monitor is a terriffic value - and Samsung most certainly supports its product and makes warranty service a breeze. Jerry

Customer Review: The LCD for the Minimalist
Remember with buying FLAT LCD monitors, the VIEWABLE space is as advertised, while a 17" CRT (normal) monitor actually only has 15" viewable despite being advertised at 17". I thought 15" would be too small, but it's a lot bigger once you actually use one and sit in front of it. The words "less is more" couldn't ring truer for this monitor. The very thin frame makes the picture look larger, and as an added bonus, the power supply is built in (no brick) with the signal and power cords neatly stowing away through the hole in the stand. Very low profile, you will be able to use your desk again. Picture quality is good, and make sure to turn on your "ClearType" in Windows XP. There is very little "ghosting" effect on the screen, and I am able to play games effectively. The only bad part is that the swivel is rigid and a bit hard to adjust, unlike the display on the new table lamp iMacs. The bottom line is, once you go flat, you won't go back.

Customer Review: Decent for the price
It looks like the price has gone up since I got it, so it might not be the same value that it was previously. But the quality is definitely decent. As I've seen people recommend for other LCDs, you should run this monitor in the native 1280x1024. Otherwise, pixel interpolation will blur the text. If you are using the monitor to play video games, they will almost certainly run at a lower resolution, and thus be interpolated. But interpolation is fine for graphics and video games. It hurts the eyes to look at the interpolation for text, however. Some people may not want to run at the full 1280x1024, since it makes window widgets and text tiny. So these people will have to settle with interpolation, which make be even worse. Another person mentioned damage upon arrival of the monitor. I've had no such problem. The install instructions are skimpy. I'm using this monitor under Linux and I was suprised to find a Linux section in the installation guide. But it was little help. In fact, the technical specification could not be found among the documentation, and I had to go back to Amazon to figure out, i.e., what the horizontal and vertical refresh ranges were so that X11R6 could find the optimal refresh rate of 76Hz. Interestingly, the box claims compatibility with Macintosh and Solaris, but I definitely haven't tested this for either. Going from a CRT, I immediately have relief from the flickering that is inherent to CRTs. But my eyes will still have to get used to this monitor.
Customer Review: Not what I expected.
I was quite disappointed by the picture quality on this monitor. It was better than my elderly CRT monitor, but nowhere near as crisp as the LCD display on my HP laptop. Also, one of the navigation buttons on the front display was inoperable. The viewing angle, adjustability, and overall form factor of this monitor was very nice. It's a shame the most important part -- the screen itself -- was so unsatisfactory.

Customer Review: Nice monitor, if set properly
I purchased this monitor in a hurry, my CRT display just died one morning and I was in a middle of a project. Where I live (Central America at the moment), choice is limited, so 960bf was the only acceptable available option on short notice. I use it together with Mac Dual G5, with GeForce 5200 video card, DVI connection. I was a bit hesitant switching to LCD since I do lots of photo editing and critical color work, but so far, so good (see below). Software supplied is Windows-only and since there are no buttons at all, you have to do all the adjustments via software. Samsung site is not very clear on this and finding the software to even change the brigthness (and this one is VERY bright) was a pain, but in the end I got hold of Samsung MagicTune for OS X and it offers numerous adjustment options. The only thing not available is pivot software, which is a shame, I'd love to be able to use this monitor in portrait mode. It's funny, the lack of Mac support, since the industrial design of this monitor screams iMac/book/pod/anything Apple. It actually looks very nice. As for the color, it works good but with a catch: I also got a Pantone Huey display calibrator to set the colors, it is a must. Don't even bother trying to set colors visually, it won't work with this one. After the calibration, colors are very accurate, viewing angle affects brightnes minimally and even though the illumination is not 100% uniform (darker upper corners), I can live with it. I tried watching movies (DVD and Quicktime) and response time is great, very smooth playback at any size. All in all, I am quite happy with this display.

The image quality is exceptional. It's not hacked quality like Sony XBrite, which will cause all the glares in various light conditions. I use Apple Cinema 23 widescreen, ao trust me on the image quality of 960BF. For DVD & games, I haven't experience any ghosting and such. I have nVidia & DVI, so some people who report the problems may have ATI or analog connection? 960BF looks beautiful from any angle, front or rear, on or off! It sets apart from other typical black/silver lcd monitors out there. Adjusting height & angle is breeze, and Magic Rotate (so you can see it vertically) is one useful extra feature. Go check out yourself, you will be hooked. Only thing that bothers me is the fact it is manufactured in China (970P-Korea), so I'm not sure of its reliability.

I used to own one of those huge bulky 19" inch flat-screen monitors before this one, and am I glad I made the switch - so much space on my desk now!! Now about the monitor itself: Beautiful colors, awesome size so if you're into gaming like I am this is a new experience. Also, this is perfect for web-designers and those who use photo-editors and the likes. Plenty of room to leave all toolbars, menus, etc. on the screen. I actually bought mine a little over a year ago, and I know now they have monitors with a higher contrast ratio, but this is perfect. I do not intend on replacing while it still works.

Like any purchase of considerable value, I went over a fair number of reviews before committing to a purchase, Suffice to say this is my second Samsung 22" monitor as I need multiple screens for my kind of work. As I try to think of helpful comments to make, I can only come to this; 1) You can not get more of a monitor than the video card is able to do.So spending time comparing highly technical monitor performance metrics is an exercise in futility. 2) While manufacturers go out of their way to make product claims, 90% of all monitors are made by the same 2 or 3 manufacturers in China. Don't buy into the idea hat brand x is better than brand y. Chances are they are the same product with different packaging. 3) I have had a 225BW and a 226BW working 24/7 for a year now and they are very sturdy and reliable. 3) Beware of "out of the box" and refurbished goods. They are not worth the price and getting the traditionally good Amazon customer service from Amazon has become considerably harder and altogether a very annoying experience, unless of course you are proficient at Hindi.Complaint letters to Jeff Besos, once very effective procedure, now go unanswered. 4) CostCo has repeatedly offered this model at a lower price and frankly, they have much better customer service and naturally you save on shipping. 5) Avoid using the otherwise very good mage enhancing software provided by Samsung as it does not interface well with Windows XP Overall a good buy.

I bought this unit about 18 months ago and use it primarily as a TV. It works fine. The other day the screen started acting up--it would go black after being on for a few hours, and if I turned it off and back on it would blank after a few seconds. I went to the Samsung Web site that night, and it said this was probably a bad backlight. So I submitted an online service request. Samsung called the next morning to say that they would be shipping a brand new replacement unit to the nearest UPS Store. i would be able to pick it up in a few days and drop off the old one. Sure, it would have been better if it never failed at all, but it is hard to see how they could do a better job of honoring the warranty. Great job, Samsung!

This monitor was my first excursion into the LCD market, and I am not disappointed. The image quality, sharpness, and brightness rival any CRT and the contrast is decent. Compared with the laptop monitors I've used, this Samsung is somewhat harsher on the eyes as it is more crisp. Of course, if you're using Windows XP, you'll want to use its ClearType font smoothing. In terms of latency, I can see no difference between this screen and a CRT. The Auto Adjust button is great for quickly setting up the screen's geometry. While the footpring is small, the base is slightlly unstable. Also, my monitor has a dead pixel in the middle. However, what matters most is image quality, and you will be exceedingly pleased with this LCD.

We took 10 of the 151s for our Internet Café. For 2 reasons we have chosen LCD screens over CRT monitors: Having a monitor running 10 hours a day adds up to the energy bill, and LCD monitors consume essentially less power than CRT monitors. Second, the space it takes on the desk is much less than what a CRT demands. Samsung has a good reputation for LCD monitors (somewhat less for CRT screens). The dead pixel rate is really low, and the color rendition and image definition is in the better range of the LCD marketplace. Overall, this monitor is an excellent deal when looking at the price-performance ratio.

I have owned this monitor for about 16 months now and still love it. It is big & bright and takes up very little room on my desk. Everyone who uses my computer comments on my "Great Monitor". This monitor is probably the best 17" analog monitor you can buy anywhere. It's image quality will knock your socks off. PROS: * It is PC and Mac compatible and includes a 13W-3 input for connecting to Sun and SGI workstations. * Very bright and clean resolution up to 1280 x 1024 (took the top spot in C-net Labs LCD performance testing). * Optional 4-port USB hub connects cleanly to back of stand for extra convenience. * Menu and controls are very easy and intuitive to use. * Generous 80-degree viewing angle from all four directions . * 3-year warranty, including coverage on the backlight. * Long RGB cable (5ft) for extra slack when routing to PC. CONS: * It is analog not digital. * Will not do 1600 x 1200 (I know I'm greedy). * Only looks good at 1280 x 1024 resolution (lower resolution takes a significant quality dip) - this is not a big deal, but does require you to do at least two things: 1. Buy a good vide card that will run smoothly at that kind of resolution (32mb or better). 2. Bump the operating system display scheme from normal to large or extra large (if you want to read text without eventual eye strain). After owning an extremely nice 17" LG Flatron I was a bit hesitant at switching brands, but this 19" Samsung is a great monitor. It has a very nice picture, controls and a nice black, unobtrusive bezel. The picture is bright, crisp and with great text. The color match software is nice also and gives the user great control over the settings. This is a great monitor period and for the price a real bargain.

Bought this LCD to upgrade a 17 inch CRT clunker. No dead pixels, complete installation took less than 15 minutes. Windows XP recognized LCD without having to load any drivers. Display is bright and clear, actually had to adjust default brightness to lower setting. Adjusted monitor settings to display larger icons and fonts so I don't have to wear my reading glasses when viewing lcd. Reduced footprint gave us 25% more desktop space. LCD looks so good on desk, we decided to purchase a color matching wireless keyboard/mouse combo, now it looks as if have a brand new system. The first monitor was a DOA. I tried everything to get it to work. Amazon is amazing when it comes to returning items. The process of returning is very clean and a replacement was sent as soon as the UPS scan was completed. The monitor is an outstanding value. The appearance is crisp and well defined. The software wasn't exactly compatible with Windows Vista (but what is?). Fortunately,the Intel video driver on my laptop includes a rotation option. This works great! I love my new monitor and even though I only rotate to portrait mode a couple of times a week, it's still well worth the price. Don't be fooled, this is a 19" wide screen, it's not a 19" standard. It's much smaller than you would expect.

The monitor itself is very nice and has a beautiful picture. It was very easy to set up with my Dell E1705 through the DVI interface. Since both are 1440 X 900 the display is crisp and clear. Color is excellent when playing DVD's. Rotation makes working on documents easy on the eyes. Although this screen is only 2 inches (~5cm) larger than my laptop, the extra brightness reduces eye strain. My only complaint is that the rotation software included does not boot very nicely with the anti-virus program (NOD32), once in while a reboot is necessary. Hopefully updated drivers will fix this in the near future.

Customer Review: Excellent TV, not a monitor
I purchased the T240HD for usage as a computer monitor because of a long history with Samsung monitors being absolutely top notch. Unfortunately this product while being pitched as a monitor, makes a great TV but not a great monitor. The resolution is very good (1920x1200) and it's very attractive and stylish. There is no vertical height adjustment (typical for a TV but important to have in a monitor). Your desk / monitor stand had better be at just the right height. The edge is highly reflective and creates bad glare around the picture in a work environment. The adjustments are typical TV adjustments but not monitor adjustments (there is no horizontal or vertical position adjustment). I've used Samsung monitors for many years and recommend them to my clients. When I finally purchased a HDTV I bought a 46" Samsung which is excellent. The T240HD makes a great HDTV but I regret purchasing it as a computer monitor.

So there is no mistake, this review is for the Samsung T240HD. It appears that others are posting reviews here for some other product because there are no cons to this HDTV/Monitor. I read the specs posted by Samgung before I purchased the T240HD and was impressed. I already own a 52" 1080p HDTV so to compare the T240HD, it is a fabulous 1080p HDTV and a spectacular computer monitor. It handles all inputs perfectly. I have a Playstation 3, a PC, and digital cable (no cable box) hooked to it. All modes are clear, sharp and bright. The remote is full featured and it handles Blu-Ray as expected. I paid $479.99 after shopping and watching the net. Why would anyone want to wall mount a 24" TV? For the 500 buck range, nobody else comes close in quality and features.

Customer Review: Excellent Monitor
I purchased mine about three months ago, no problems or dead pixels. Very clear and sharp compared to others. I considered a Sony but it was only analog without DVI. I have hooked up two computers using only one at a time. One is DVI and the other is analog. Great pictures either way. With Win XP the option of using clear type makes text even sharper. I notice some ghosting at times but I feel that is due to my video card, a Gforce 5200 FX 128mb. I'd suggest having a better card depending on if you play fast action games. It's rare but it does happen. All in all I feel it was a very good choice. Oh, this is a larger viewing area than my 19" CRT.
Customer Review: Still going strong
I've been using this monitor for about 10 months now (my computer is my home within home, so I use it a lot). I'm completely spoiled with this monitor's greatness - awesome 1280x1024 resolution with vibrant colors, more screen - less frame, and great reliability. Even though others may complain that the dead-pixels warranty is poor, I've yet to see any dead-pixels at all on mine. The landscape/portrait option is great to have for maybe photo editing (for portrait photos), internet browsing, and word/spreadsheets processing. My ATI software for my video card supports this feature. Also, the DVI/VGA switch (A and B) allows maybe two computers to share this monitor (if one uses DVI and the other uses VGA). If memory serves me right, my research for a 19-inch monitor before buying this led me to find out that this monitor uses almost half the power of the average competitor, including Dell. If it is any factor to anyone, it may save you money as a long-term investment in terms of product lifetime and power saving. Just a little info for people searching for their next monitor: *A 19-inch LCD is not the same as a 19-inch CRT in terms of viewable screen (19-inch CRT will typically be 18-inch viewable). *Samsung is gradually becoming one of the better electronics company...they got my vote as being the best.

Customer Review: Great All Around Monitor
Let me start by saying that Samsung has the best flat panel technology in the world, Samsung is the largest flat panel company and the provider for many of the LCD brands out there. I believe Samsung is getting the best panels for its branded monitors. I use this monitor at work and I recommend it to anyone looking to upgrade to an LCD. It is stylish looking, saves valuable desk space and has a truly excellent image quality. The technical specs of this display do not match those of the more expensive panels but they make it top of the line in its category. I haven't done any gaming nor movie watching with this monitor (as you can imagine), however with 16 ms response time, it should deliver a decent picture. Moreover, I have watched several short video clips on it and I was pleasantly surprised by the picture quality (having a good video card helps too). As far as office applications and internet use, this is such an improvement over any regular CRT monitor that I urge you to try it. The clarity of the display impressed me and more importantly it eliminated my eyes' irritation caused by staring at a screen for too long. Text and image quality is sharp and crisp. No more headaches, red eyes or other symptoms, you can even tone down the screen brightness to your liking. Last, this monitor comes with 3 year product warranty. The only cons are that the monitor stand is limited to tilting the monitor up or down, it doesn't rotate left and right and it doesn't have height adjustment so you might need to work around these things.

I bought this monitor to use exclusively as a flat panel TV in our bedroom. I was concerned that it wouldn't be bright enough at 250 nits (many "pure" flat panel TVs are 350 nits or higher). But I've been happily suprised that it is plenty bright and the picture (analog cable) is really, really great. The only small complaint is that very fast action (like a football player running at full speed) will cause a bit of ghosting or blurring on the screen. It is not terrible but is noticeable. Overall I'm very happy with this monitor.

Installed easily using the digital interface. Picture quality is great! I use it for both daily web surfing, e-mails, etc. as well as editing photos. Color fidelity seems good so far, no bad pixels. I was hoping to purchase a widescreen format monitor, but none of the widescreens seem to use the type of LCD panel that is best for faithful and consistent color reproduction. In moving from my widescreen laptop monitor to this, I was worried that the loss of screen width (in pixels) would bug me. However, I have found that the added height (in aspect ratio terms) makes up for it easily in all the applications I have used so far. Pixel pitch is great - it keeps text large enough to legible without having to get my nose too close to the screen. The screen can be very bright (which can be both good or bad - depending on the situation), but once I calibrated it using Spyder2Express, everything looks wonderful. Good product, good price.

I usually do not write reviews, but I was looking at another SyncMaster model and stumbled across these reviews. I was scratching my head over some of the negative reviews I read. Granted I can't comment on others' experiences, but I have owned the SyncMaster 170mp for 3 to 4 years now... I use it for my monitor for a computer cabinet I have in my bedroom. It also doubles as a second TV. The picture quality of my cable through my SyncMaster is very good, almost as good as my promary HD LCD TV, and we never have a problem viewing the picture. Our viewing distance from the monitor in the bedroom is about 9-10 feet. Also, living in an older house, we have be subjected to a number of blackouts and power surges. I have my SyncMaster hooked up to a surge protector and never experienced any problems with my monitor after an electrical event occurs.
Customer Review: BEWARE OF MONITOR POWER SURGE PROBLEMS
I have owned my unit for 3 1/2 years for use primarily as a home office monitor and bedroom TV. I have it connected to my laptop docking station and satelight dish for TV. Overall, I have enjoyed its use with the convenience of a monitor and PIP TV. The picture is bright and clear and the resolution is of sufficient quality for close viewing in a small room. My only caution is a recurring problem I have now encountered 3 separate times. If the monitor is on when a power outage occurs and the power suddenly comes back on, the monitor will be damaged and the brightness will be reduced by 75%. I know all about the dangers of power surges, so I connected the monitor to a quality surge protector. Still on three separate occasions the unit has failed in the same situation. The first two happened during the 3 year warranty period and Samsung sent me a refurbished replacement free of charge. Tonight it happened again and I am out of warranty, so I'm SOL. If you plan to use this unit for more than 3 years you might want to consider an extended warranty or a different product.
